Hi Charlotte, you have some nice beginnings here, although it would be nice if you worked your portrait shots from life, photos can sap the life out of a face as well as creating subtle distortions and a certain amount of flattening of forms. Try playing around with the lighting as well to enhance the planes and bone structure of the face, get a couple of desk-lamps and a mirror and have some fun. You have a good sense of tone which I feel you can push further, also investing in a scanner and scanning your images in will improve there appearance no end. Firstly the image will be truer to the original, secondly it will also aid colour correction if the image requires it and thirdly it will improve the appearance of your blog.
